I'm pleased to announce my new course, Transgender Politics and Screen Cultures. It will be offered through Florida Atlantic University's Lifelong Learning Society and is thus not for credit toward a degree. It will be held in the Lifelong Learning Complex at FAU's Jupiter campus from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 25, May 2, May 9, and May 16. Enrollment is open to anyone but will be limited to thirty students. The cost is twenty dollars for all four sessions, and registration is available through the Lifelong Learning Society's website. If you would like to attend but need a ride or can't afford the registration fee, or if you would like to help someone else with transportation or registration, please let me know. The complete course information is available here.

It's been a big summer! Here are some highlights:
Publications In Trans Bodies, Trans Selves, I published an opinion piece about trans allyship, a guide to trans etiquette, and a chapter on trans activism. See pages 10, 125–26, and 567–89. More recently, in Films for the Feminist Classroom, I published an article about trans documentary film. The article features supporting contributions by David Jacobsen. Presentations I delivered a trans activist workshop, which was hosted by Wild Iris Books and the Civic Media Center in Gainesville, Florida. The workshop was very well-received. You can read blog entries about it here and here. My next confirmed presentations will be held at the National Women's Studies Association Annual Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Event Planning The Transecting Society Conference coordinating committee, of which I am a part, released its call for presenters for the 2015 conference. Please consider submitting. Activism In March 2014, I created the Trans* Initiative at Florida Atlantic University. The asterisk in the name signifies the intention to be inclusive of a broad range of gendered embodiments, identities, and expressions. The initiative's mission is to promote civility and respect toward, and the freedom and engagement of, transgender and gender-nonconforming members of the FAU community. In July, the initiative launched its Trans-Accessible Restroom Campaign. The campaign has a petition here and a Facebook page here. More updates coming soon! |
